(I am still using Notepad++ itself.) Instead, I use HxD, which is both powerful and beginner-friendly. The Notepad++ hex editor does not have to undo support, so I no longer use it. This will toggle whether you are viewing the file in hex. To test if your install was successful, restart Notepad++, and you should see a menu option Plugins -> Hex-Editor -> View in Hex.
